Fishing is one of the most popular outdoor activities in the United States, with over 29 million fishing licenses sold in 2019. In 2020, over 50 million people across the U.S. dropped a line in lakes, streams, ponds, rivers and oceans. We Americans love to go fishing!
Here are some fun facts in case you are ever on jeopardy.
-There are 27,300 known species of fish in the world.
-When inserting a knot in fishing line, you lose about 50% of a line’s test strength. (Something to keep in mind when you are going after the monster bass.)
-Monofilament line is capable of the most stretch.
A little more trivia.
-Pike are known for hiding under logs and attacking their prey from the shadows. (Sneaky huh?)
-You will catch the biggest bass in the middle of the lake. (And I always fished the lillies.)
-The healthiest fish for weight loss are salmon, tuna, pacific cod, trout, sardines and mackerel. (For those of us that could stand to lose a few pounds.)
-The anchovy belongs to the herring fish family. (Something to think about the next time you order pizza.)
-If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there’d be a shortage of fishing poles.
